I have also decided to opt for the long/short method.

Plane A flies a 12hr flight, then comes back, does a short flight (8hrs or so) and then comes back. Then the whole cycle starts again. Plane B does the same but offset by one day.

Here is the next big question though. I am planning to fly from Europe to Australia and New Zealand. First of all, will political restrictions forbid me to fly let's say LHR-SIN-SYD? As a European airline I guess I might not be allowed to fly between SIN and SYD?
I also need to find a meaningful way to schedule that. It is about 26 hours one way, so the flight back will have to be a separate route (is that possible as a European carrier) and if I want this to go daily I need to juggle a few planes.
Lot's of planning involved Smile

Yes political restrictions would forbid an airline based in europe to fly SIN-SYD. there are plans for some sort of 5th freedom flights to be implemented into the game in some way, shape, or form, but it is not finalized exactly how that would work yet.

If a route has 2 or less stops (so A->B->A or A->B->C) there is no time limit, so it doesn't have to be two routes.

Routes with 3 or more stops have a time limit of 48 hours.
