Guess it did not want to die just yet, I guess they are after the long range of these jets.

Anyhow a total of 17 order this year is at the current rate of production good for nearly 3 years, but it is still feels like the last hoorays more than anything else.

I guess the upside is fast delivery because there are so few orders waiting and the twin jets are in high demand for passenger planes so slotting in cargo ones in there might be tricky. Of course many will be converted at some point.

Anyhow the jumbo keeps flying for a bit longer, although the passenger game truly seems to be over and out.

Only specialized cargo airlines can appreciate the capacity and use of the 747.

Pretty much. Yet, despite the small celebration, it's pretty bad that such an icon is being beaten up in such a dying market. There's too many better alternatives now IE: A380, A350, B777, and the B787.

The A380 will likely die in 2019 and the 747 shortly thereafter. Airbus will likely cut the program if they can't get anyone besides Emirates to keep buying the planes and with the 777-9X available now, new 747 orders will be exclusively freighters. The 14 should help a lot and assuming Boeing doesn't boost production they may be able to hold on until 2019-2020 when they claim all of the mass replacements will drive increased demand for the 747-8. We will see...

Exactly. Thus, the market for the jumbo jets is practically dead now with better, lower capacity, yet more cost-efficient, options out there. Yet, kinda brings a tear to the eye because of such. I blame Bush. He did 9-11. xD

Twin jets taking over has been an ongoing process for a while.

Still just read that the KLM 747 made it's last flight to sint marten to. They are an iconic plane and it is a bit sad to see them go.
