Aside from the walk-around that pilots do before a flight, normally how long it takes for engineers to check/repair an aircraft while it is parked in the maintenance hangar or simply the passenger terminal? Sometimes I see aircraft towing to the maintenance hangar at night, and I wonder when will they leave the "hospital".

Depends on the repair needed. A lot of stuff at the gate takes <20 minutes to diagnose and fix. Sometimes it's a simple reset, other times a quick part replacement. Big checks can take a couple days.

Hi
In addition to repairs there are several kinds of checks aircraft have to undergo on a regular basis. This ranges from the simple walk-around check to the heavy maintenance D-checks where the entire aircraft is taken apart.
I don't know about other aircraft, but I fly the A320 series and every 750hrs it has to undergo an A check. D-checks only every 6 years or so (depending on cycles).
Some checks are done over night in the hangar, others are very time intense and the plane is taken out of service for a while. Since airlines know when these checks will happen in advance, they will roster their planes accordingly.

Repairs are an unknown factor and like Astro said it really depends on what has happened. A broken NAV light means you can't fly at night but all you need to do is change a light bulb.
A bird strike causing an engine surge on the other hand will ground your plane for quite a while.

Luckily here at Airline Enterprise our planes are always in tip-top condition :-)

Hope this helps.

Stefan

Depends on the maintenance.

There are regularly scheduled things, like Stefan said above - A, B, C, and D checks. A checks take about 5 hours and they don't check very much - every 750 hours. B-checks take 24 hours and are more intense, I believe C-checks take a week, and are about once a year, and D-checks take about a month or so, since they're basically dismantling the whole plane and putting it back together again, but they're very infrequent, probably 6 years for the average airliner.

For unscheduled things (eg bird strikes, etc.) that depends on what happened.

Thanks, lets pretend giving aircraft checks in the simulation.

Yes, it's a good idea - makes it more realistic
