Demand
#1
Hi.

Is it possible to see the demand figures before scheduling a flight?

Are we having a daily demand calculator or something?

Thanks.

You will be able to research a route and view estimated demand, competition, pricing, etc before committing to a route.

I'd be against it, maybe you should be able to see how many seats are offered by competitors. And you should be able to see how many seats you sold after one of your flights but airlines can't predict the future.

If I schedule a flight and I have very few passengers on board I need to abort the flight. I cannot send the flight and then realize that I have three passengers on board an A-380. I want to know if the flight will be profitable.

I mean, the research function won't be so detailed that you will know exactly how passengers you will have in every situation. But you will be able to get an idea of the demand for a particular route based on passenger numbers for the departure and arrival airports. Then you can look at competition and see whether you want to enter that market or not.

Real world airlines don't know exactly how many passengers they will receive, sometimes routes have to be cancelled after only a few months or they are expanded quickly if demand was significantly bellow/above expected.

That sounds more like what I meant and sounds reasonable.

It is always a calculated risk to start a new route and there are two way to go:

Compete with other airlines on high demand routes and hope you can attract costumers due your pricing and/or service.

Fly routes which you have to yourself or only have very limited competition

Of course most of the time you end up doing a mix of both, but nothing is certain until you fly and than the next fly the following day or week might be twice as profitable or turn a massive loss, stuff happens Smile One way or the other cancelling flights is never good for your reputation.
