This is the official thread of SBAirlines

History:

SBAirlines was originally founded in 2010, at the same time as the parent company SB Corporation. SB Corporation quickly grew to become the biggest company in the Dominican Republic. The airline operation certificate for SBAirlines however wasn’t given to SBAir (call sign in game) until 2017. The government of the Dominican Republic was trying to have a state owned airline to flourish, but those projects continuously failed. The CEO of SB Corporation, Steven J. Martinez Reyes, however said that he could make an airline that would be seen as one of the best airlines in the world. In 2017 things however changed, the government was tired of pouring money in a basket case and the AOC was finally issued for SBAirlines.

SBAirlines was officially launched on the 27th of September 2017. The parent company already had an agreement with Boeing for the delivery of some planes when the AOC was issued. The planes all arrived in the middle of the night and the next day five Boeing 747’s in full SBAir colors were parked at the terminal waiting for the first passengers.

About SBAirlines:

SBAirlines set up its HQ in Santo Domingo. It’s the biggest city in the Dominican Republic and the headquarter of SB Corporation is located just a couple of minutes from the airport. The airline has hubs at both Puerto Plata Gregorio Luperon Airport and Punta Cana International Airport. The airline also decided to set up a hub at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Officially there isn’t an open skies agreement with The Netherlands, but considering the CEO is a Dutchman some agreements could be made behind closed doors. Besides the hub in Amsterdam, Madrid was appointed as a focus city.

Fleet:

SBAirlines currently operates the following planes:

2x Boeing 747-100

2x Boeing 747-200

2x Boeing 747-300

5x Boeing 747-8I (currently 4)

5x Boeing 767-300ER

4x Ilyushin IL-96-300

1x McDonnell Douglas MD-11

Expansion:

To accommodate the growth plans at SBAir a big number of planes are needed. The infrastructure in the Dominican Republic is currently being upgraded and expanded wherever possible. The ramp and gate areas at Puerto Plata, Punta Cana and Santo Domingo are projected to double in size between September and December as the airline is expecting to have 80 planes in service at the end of the year.

SBAirlines signed several lease agreements with Boeing and ILFC for the quick delivery of brand new planes. Currently only planes on offer from Boeing are on order. Airbus hasn’t been contacted yet for the delivery of any plane in their line-up although it was announced that both the A330 and A350 had been on offer.

Outstanding orders:

35x Boeing 737-8

10x Boeing 737-900ER

 14x Boeing 747-8I

10x Boeing 767-300ER

15x Boeing 777-200LR

10x Boeing 777-300ER

10x Boeing 787-8

20x Boeing 787-9

The growth could be seen as being too ambitious, although the demand currently outpaces the number of seats being offered. All of the older owned planes are currently planned to be phased out before the end of the year, as we will start receiving brand new planes starting next week.

Routes:

(Currently under construction. Will be up and running soon)

Liveries:

SBAirlines also has its distinctive livery to promote both the company and the country. There currently are some differences in the liveries as there still hasn’t been an official livery for the airline. It is expected that the future deliveries will adore the same livery as our Boeing 747-8I, proudly showing the coats of arms of the Dominican Republic.

I'm terribly sorry.. Just done with exams and now 3 projects that are due before 15 December. I'll work on it today and hopefully everything is ready for a big post tomorrow.
Would like to have the editing of text capabilities that CA had though. That was easier and would love to have that here! Smile

You know, I hadn't even noticed that... The text edit options should be there. Let me look into that.
