[CONFIRMED] Handelong contracts

How about implementing handling contracts

1.50 per passenger - Flight turns around in default game time line
2.00 per passenger plus 10 minutes and so forth

Multiple companies would have different rates depending on airport/aircraft being used

You could also impalement the same thing for maintenance, the quicker the maintenance, the more you pay.

I get this. It would make this game far tougher than it already is (quite hard), but it would certainly make it more interesting. Unknown will need to comment on whether this is feasible, but it seems a decent idea. Certainly better than my posts

So the general idea being, the more the pay the quicker the turnaround times across your fleet?

Correct, the more you pay for handling and maintenance the quicker you aircraft is available to fly.

It would also mean that the players, when setting up a route have more work to do agreeing handling per route.

It is interesting. I wasn't aware that airlines had handling contracts like that, I figured that they used their own ground crews to "turn" the aircraft. Thus eliminating the need for handling contracts. But I could certainly be wrong. Never worked for an airline or even in the industry so there's many things I'm unfamiliar with.

Yeah handling contracts are common. It’s usually an arm of a regional carrier or outsourced elsewhere. Very few airlines do ground handling themselves outside their own hubs. It is (or at least was) a big chunk of business for a good number of regionals. I don’t really think how much you pay makes much of an impact on turn times (MX is a bit of a different story) but outsourcing of ground handling is extremely common

I'll have to think about the implementation of this then. Currently in-game you hire Ramp Agents that I assumed would be the ones to do the ground handling. But I didn't think about about catering, cabin service, refueling and so on.

I think this would be something for later. The whole purpose of handling contracts is to bid out this work to whoever can do it cheapest. As a value-add item to the game I don’t see much in it tbh

The big part of these contacts is putting out a requirement and the various handling companies bid on it. Sometimes they throw in free/included services, but there isn't a relationship between cost and speed. The only purpose is for these contracts is saving $$$.

The airlines usually contract out handling for non hub locations, it doesn't make sense to interview, train, etc. staff for your one flight a week in Africa and the likes.

Source: my brother works at probably the largest MRO and hates his boss for promising random stuff, including ground handling, in contacts while being understaffed.

Hmm, interesting info there. Makes sense to outsource at low-frequency airports.

I think it's definitely something to consider for the future. I like the idea but I'd have to change a few things with how employees are calculated in order to get this accurate. I'll add it to the to-do list.
