[CONFIRMED] Assigning flight numbers during route creation
#1
Hello, everyone!

So, we all know that you can assign flight numbers to specific routes, e. g. Seoul-Gimpo (GMP) to Jeju (CJU), as well as the return flight. While it's a nice feature to have for additional realism, one particular route will always have the same flight number, no matter if your flight's scheduled for the morning, the evening, or even when you're flying the route several times during the day.

Therefore, what I'd like to see, is an option where I can assign different flight numbers to a route being flown on different times during the day, preferably during route creation, so I can have (as an example) a GMP-CJU flight numbered 801 in the morning, as well as the very same route in the evening, yet going by the number 807.

I've got no idea, how difficult it is to implement something like that, but then again, it's nothing we'll need by tomorrow or the day after. Still, it'd be something nice to have for us (near) hardcore realism players.

Interesting, my experience mostly flying in Europe is that flights along the second route at different times have a different number. Helps avoid confusion, there is only one flight 1234. Do you have to give the time and flight number to staff members or is there some alternative unique number?

I think this should be possible, but it'll require some changes to how flights numbers work in the back-end. Right now when a flight takes off the system checks for a flight # and if there is one it assigns the number to the flight. I'd need to change that so that you can implement flight #'s into route creation and pre-assign them that way.

Sounds like a plan, Unk.

For all I know, this will mostly apply to short- and medium-distance routes, IF they're served more than once a day. And going back to my example, the GMP-CJU route, a 1-hour-flight, is served more than 30 times a day just by Asiana Airlines and its subsidiaries alone, so of course they'd need many different flight numbers. Won't make that much of a difference for long-distance flights, if you're not serving the holy grail that needs 3 or more 12-hour-flights every day. Finally, it all depends on how realistic one's playing with their airline. If you're going all CA-style and fly 100 aircraft from LHR to JFK at 10:00 AM, you probably won't care that much about flight numbers. (Can you even do that in AE without suffering a severe loss?)

Just an update, this will be implemented alongside the overhauled route system.
