Big airports

I wonder what is the point of leasing a gate in a big airport like LAX if the cost of leasing a gate is more expensive than a gate in a small airport and having more competition there will be less profitability.

Simple larger airports have higher demands, so you can fill up more planes and perhaps at higher ticker prices.
