Capitalism at its finest. Although on good days you can make a lot in tips, I had friends who made $200-$300 in one night.

Hello! So many old members are showing up! Great to see
I never got that much in tips unfortunately. I think the most I walked out with was $75. Cash orders killed us.

But why not just make that the wage? Reduce the uncertainty.
Well yeah that'd be ideal. I wish companies in the US would pay nice wages and give several weeks of vacation like most other countries but it just doesn't happen most of the time. My last company only gave 5 days per year of paid vacation, and it only went up to 10 days once you reached 5 years of service. That's typical of most US companies although some do give more.

Oh and if you work part time you're SOL, don't count on any benefits whatsoever other than maybe 401K savings plan and some kind of health insurance, if you work enough. Again depends on the company but for the most part, part-time workers don't get anything. Which is fine if it's an entry level job I guess but at a certain point you'd think you would start earning some kind of benefits.

Here you get 4 weeks leave absolute minimum, but it's usually 4 or 5. Plus you get long service leave every ten years (with the same employer) which is usually 8 weeks+. Most companies here don't do healthcare benefits, since they're standard for everyone anyway. Honestly prefer our 'socialist' economy than the U.S's pure capitalist one. Tongue
