I hate baggage fees Dodgy

Looking at flights to NC, would rather fly to Greensboro than Raleigh but Southwest only flies to Raleigh. Could go on Delta to GSO but would be ~$75 more expensive and also smaller, more boring, older Delta aircraft Tongue

I shall keep looking

Even when the alternative is potentially being forced to pay for a bag in the price of your ticket which you might not use? Personally I prefer LCC due to the more choice in fare structure and just buying what you need.

Meh. I don't know. I guess. Thing is, Southwest is considered a LCC (I think) and they don't charge for bags, yet their prices are the same if not cheaper than everyone else. AND I don't have to travel 1.5 hours to IAH, I get to leave out of HOU. I looked into Spirit but they don't even fly to north carolina lol.

I think air travel in the US is just way more expensive than other places. For example I was looking at HOU-LAX for a possible trip later this year, and it's $425 roughly, per person. I looked at Easyjet in the UK just b/c I was interested to compare, and on the same dates I could book a LGW-FCO, which is a longer flight, for $130 per person! That's insanely cheap. I wish I could pay $85 and get a plane ticket to another city lol. In the US $85 might get me to San Antonio or Austin but no further. May as well drive.

The US domestic air travel system is generally a mess. Thanks, Airline Deregulation Act!

Yeah, US flights are pretty much a sham of what they used to... PanAm... <3

Had no idea how much more expensive US flights were, just had a quick look on Ryainair from EMA, I could go to Dublin for £19.99 (~25usd) return for an hours flight.

Christ, that's cheap!! I'd be flying every month just for the hell of it if that were the case lol. For me to fly to Austin (50 min flight) it's $190 RT. Or I can hop in my truck and get there in 3 hours for 1 tank of gas ($45).

JEEBUS! I know its Ryanair, BUT STILL! Even a train ticket from here to Chicago, over 450 miles away will cost me more than $35! O_o

Hell the Amtrak ticket from Anaheim to LA is $60 RT. What's that like a 45 min ride?

Hard to do comparisons like that in the UK. While there is the channel tunnel trains to the continent they are ridiculously expensive. Fares are realy expensive for trains but flights realy cheap, despite this there are very few domestic flights - and most are aimed at business passengers and they cost loads. e.g. Leeds to Limoges (France) is a 2 hour flight. Currently at £32 (40usd) return for a week in March (Ryainair). However, an hour flight from Doncaster to Newquay with Flybe is available at £61 (75usd) return, the train would cost £174 (215usd), take around 7 and a half hours and require 3 changes. Journey would be around 330 miles and take 5 hours by road.
