Route System Overhaul
#1
I want to overhaul the route creation system and make it more user friendly when it comes to creating routes. Also hopefully eliminate some of the bugs that we're currently having with the routes not flying correctly. Here's what I'm thinking:

1) Dynamically add/remove stops from each route. Eliminate needing to choose the number of stops beforehand.
2) Remove aircraft assignment from the route creation process. Replace the dropdown boxes for selecting the airports with text boxes that you type the IATA code into.
3) Allow routes to be scheduled on certain days of the week
4) Create a "Route Details" page, which allows you to change the assigned aircraft, and also displays the departure/arrival times for each stop on the route. This is also where you could select custom departure times for each stop, if you so desire. Ideally the departure times would change dynamically dependent on the aircraft you choose. So you could select various aircraft and see how the departure times change in real-time without reloading the page. Maybe. Hopefully. Also, maybe this page could add/remove stops, so kind of acting like an edit route function as well as a route details page. We'll see.
5) Somehow implement custom flight numbers and ticket pricing into the route creation process. All flights between two airports would no longer have the same flight number. Each individual flight between the airports would have it's own flight number.

So my vision for how this would work is first, you build the route. Once you have it configured how you like, it will shoot you into the route details page where you would assign the aircraft and configure the departure times. And possibly be able to add or remove stops if you need to make the route longer/shorter. So essentially it would take the process from 3 steps down to only 2 steps.

Any thoughts/questions/concerns are welcomed. I've put this off for a while but the route system is the backbone of the entire game, so it needs to be relatively user friendly and not confusing for new players to use.

So here's a look at what I've been working on, it covers points 1-3 above: https://www.airlineenterprise.com/airlin...create_new

It doesn't function (other than the debugging info that is displayed) but you guys can see how it will work. As you can see you are able to dynamically add and remove stops without going back or refreshing the page. You can also choose what days of the week the route will fly.

Let me know of anything else you think should be added or changed, or any UI improvements you see that could potentially be made.

The next step is to try and create the route details page where you would assign the aircraft and choose custom departure times and flight numbers/ticket prices if you want to.

For those of you not on the chat -

Still a WIP but you get the idea. To activate/deactivate routes now, all you have to do is flip the switch and it does it via AJAX without needing to reload the page. Trying to get the same thing working for renaming routes, so you can rename them without reloading the page.
