Runway x Airplane

I have see in CGH a L1011-500 to arrived, the L1011-500 need 7200ft, but CGH have 6365ft. A 777-300ER arrived in CGH too.

This is correct?

Hmm I don’t know. Could be that they came from nearby.

The L1011 came from JNB and the 777-300ER from JFK... hmm.. seems like something is not quite right.

For the L1011 to fly JNB-CGH:

Target weight: 450,854 lbs or less. (This is calculated by a proportion, runway requirement/MTOW x actual runway/target weight. Solve for target weight. In this case: 7200/510,000 x 6365/target weight. Cross multiply and solve for the target weight and you get 450,854.)

Fuel w/ reserve requires 22,288 gallons which weighs 152,451 lbs.

So we are at 245,400 (OEW) + 152451 = 397,851 lbs.

Misc weight per the formula is 330 * 10 + 700 = 4,000 lbs. Now we're at 401,851 lbs.

450,854 - 401,851 = 49,003 lbs remaining for the payload. Passengers weigh 220 lbs each including luggage, so 49,003 / 220 = 222 passengers.

So a L1011 can indeed fly from JNB to CGH, the load will just be limited to a maximum of 222 passengers.

The same can likely be said for the other aircraft.

Depends where you're going, short flights could potentially be full but longer flights will be reduced due to higher fuel load.

To calculate fuel needed, multiply the fuel burn of the aircraft by the distance of the flight. Then add 30 minutes of reserve by dividing the aircraft's speed by 2, and multiplying that by the fuel burn. Then add the two.

Fuel weighs 6.84 lbs/gallon. So calculate the fuel needed and multiply by 6.84 to get the weight.
