Gate supply
#1
It seems that the supply of gate is unlimited, while in reality airport have a limited supply for gate or slot. My suggestion will be accounting the actual number of gate available in the airport and charging the cost based on demand of the airport gate. For dedicated, only enable for airline with a hub in the airport, as for high demand gate, maybe can apply a auction with the highest bidder get the gate. For shared, can made available for all while paying different cost based on time slot demand. Do hope my suggestion help and hopefully can be implement to the game soon. Smile

This is already on the list to be added.

A new gate management system is in the pipeline that will utilize slots as well as gates, but as far as limiting actual gates available at each airport that is not something that is currently being considered.

If it was implemented the gates at each airport would have to be calculated because real world data for gate numbers is next to impossible to find and even if we did manage to find it for every airport in-game it would take months to add all that data to the database.

@unk
You could have a number of gates based on airport size. However, I think that even the smallest airports should have at least 2 gates, so maybe have a limiter on the negative end, and possibly also on the positive end, depending on what it would work out to lol.

I could but what happens when 1 airline leases all the gates and new airlines can't get started?

It happens IRL...

I mean, look at LHR - BA is ruling that airport, newer airlines don't fly there much, since they can't get/afford slots. However, I get your point.

Maybe have some sort of thing like in AE with Terminals, where you build your own terminal which has gates in it - after you build it your lease costs get cut in half or something, but it costs a lot to build?

But the building terminals and things, IRL, sometimes takes up to decade to purchase the land, demolish buildings, and build a new one. When that happens, the game just doesnt become realistic. Maybe instead of one airline getting all of the gates, the gates will be auctioned instead. Whenever a new bidder with higher price for the gate comes, the airlines will fight for the gate, and there will be no discount for owning many gates. This will prevent large airlines taking all of the gates, since they will have to pay for all of the gates for a very pricey cost. The new bidder can bid a higher price than the highest one, and the airlines from the highest bidding price will choose the number of gates, if that makes sense.

This would be good if a gate becomes available, not if an airline is already using it. it could work like the aircraft second hand market does, list out available gates and associated costs etc.

I actually played a simulation with that same game mechanic and it's no fun at all. I might please some elitist players, sure, but that is far too stressful for the casual player.
