Yeah but they cancelled it in favor of the 787.
The thing with the A330neo is that it's already fairly new (launched in 2014) and that it has fierce competition from the 787. It's not that there's not the demand for it or that it's not profitable for an airline. It's just that Boeing beat Airbus time-wise with a product which has already been flying for 3 years when the neo launched. I'm not convinced that it's not as efficient as the 787 yet. It might be but it's been in service only for a few months. Time will tell I guess..
