The sound of speed
It is dark and cold in the early morning hours at Toronto Pearson, of course there is plenty of activity going around an airport rarely ever sleeps after all. However this morning something far more special is going to happen than just an other number of flights, shouting passengers and frustrated crews. Not so long ago a new airline going by the name ALYX made this airport her home, privately owned they swiftly made clear they would handle things their own way. Much of this was standard fare in many ways, just better service and all that, the only really unusual aspect was a pair of VC10s in their active fleet. They call this their classic fleet a mission to keep history in motion. However now 4 more planes have joined this classic fleet, the Concorde is going back to the skies, after spending a good while in the hands of a team of mechanics young and old they have been brought entirely up to date and back to an airworthy condition and an interior that provides all the modern comforts, but keeps a wonderful retro feel to it.
It is 0620 as the radio transmission comes in, "Aegis 97 to ground, requesting permission to taxi to runway." "Copy Aegis 97 head for Alpha-Mike, cross over Bravo and Hold at Delta before 33 Right." "Aegis 97 heading for Alpha-Mike, crossing Bravo and holding at Delta before 33 Right."
Slowly the sleek Concorde starts to move, it almost looks like a delicate fragile thing standing so high on her gears. It is a short taxi short run as planned to the runway. "Aegis 97 transfer to the tower for take off clearance and godspeed." "Thanks ground see you in a couple of hours."
"Aegis 97 to tower requesting permission to enter the runway and take off." "Aegis 97, after the 757 has touched down you are clear to enter the runway and take off and your discretion." "Aegis 97 waiting for the 757 to touch down."
Not much later the mentioned 757 touches down as it slows down the Concorde makes it's way onto the runway and once on it reverses to the very edge of the runway. With the runway at Toronto being just under the recommended length they need every single bit 05/23 has an other 100 feet or so on it, but the winds today would not allow for it. Now staged the engines are spooling up to maximum, the afterburners light up to create a deafening noise and soon like a startled hare she starts to roll down the runway going ever faster and faster until she finally pitches up and takes to the skies.

"Aegis 97 you are cleared to proceed as planned to flight level 490. Toronto tower out." With that message the deafening roar is getting less as she pitches towards the empty areas to speed up to a speed in excess of mach 2 and in just over 3 hours she will touch down in London Heathrow and just like that it is as if Concorde never left the skies.
