Personally I like the idea of being able to set up routes which will happen as they go, but you have to check in to ensure all is well, or maybe things are going wrong (break down, bad weather) so you have to fly in a backup plane for example to take care of things, maybe do some PR work to limit your reputation damage.
It would make things a bit more strategic, sure I can put all my planes up on routes, but I would be left without any backup when something goes wrong and stranded passengers are not happy ones. As your airline grows larger and older you could delegate older aircraft to this role, but you still need to deal with upkeep and also if you new planes have the most fancy IFE systems and people suddenly board and older plane without it, that would also hinder their excitement.
Anyhow at least make sure the routes can be saved so if I send up a nice go between routining that I can keep it going cause well that makes sense
