So currently this is how the competition portion of the demand formula is calculated:
Competition Factor: 1 - [ Pax transported in the last week / ( Base pax * 14 ) ]
Actual Pax Lost: [ ( Base pax * Competition factor ) - Base pax ] * 0.60
And those calculations are repeated for each class of passengers.
So lets look at economy passengers for MDE-GRU:
Competition Factor: 1 - [ 2630 / ( 279 * 14 ) ] = 0.326676907322069
Actual Pax Lost: [ ( 279 * 0.326676907322069) - 279 ] * 0.60 = -113
So of the available 279 economy passengers, due to weekly transported passengers of 2,630, the demand has decreased by 113 passengers, for a new total of 166 available passengers. And of course that will continue decreasing as more flights are flown.
So doing some simple math, 2,600 transported passengers have caused demand to drop 40.5%. That may be too much of a penalty, or it may not be, I'm not sure. It does seem a bit on the high side. I'm open to changing the formula if it needs to be changed, but I think we should have a discussion about it first to make sure we make educated changes to the formula based off of facts. It's difficult to replicate real life demand 100% accurately as there are many external factors that influence demand that simply cannot be simulated.
