Global Airways has leased its first A340-500, enabling it to begin direct flights between New York and Sydney. This is a truly momentous ocassion, marking only the second time Australia has been connected directly to the US East Coast, and the first time ever a direct flight to Sydney is available. Global 504 will depart New York JFK at 21:30 on Monday the 4th of June 2018, and all 194 seats on the aircraft have already been booked, over half of them by aviation journalists covering the inaugural service. This will be by far the longest flight in the world at 9950 miles, beating the previous record holder - Qatar Airways QR920 - by an impressive 918 miles. The flight will be nineteen hours long, during which time dinner, breakfast, and then lunch will be served in Voyage Class. On-demand dining will be available in Business and Global First throughout the flight, as on all Global Airways flights.
