Airbus A340-500 delivery
OASIS has taken delivery of its first Airbus A340-500, which has been leased from Etihad Airways, which recently retired several airframes of this model. The aircraft is currently being delivered to the airline from its location at Fez, Morocco. The route will be Fez-Denver-Sydney. However, OASIS has bigger plans for this model of aircraft. The first airframe to enter service, VH-NAA, will be deployed on the much-awaited Sydney to New York JFK route, in competition with Global Airways. The aircraft is retaining Etihad's configuration, which features 12 closed first-class suites, 28 business class flat beds, and 200 Traveller class seats. Tickets for the new Sydney to New york route will be bookable tomorrow, with award redemptions available as of next Friday. The flight will initially be operated 2 times per week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, however will be extended to daily once the aircraft can be acquired for the route.
The Airbus A340-500 is currently the longest range commercial jetliner in service, and OASIS plans on operating multiple airframes, on routes such as SYD-JFK, MEL-JFK, and possibly some routes from Sydney to Europe. However, OASIS plans to maintain a limited number of aircraft, as the airline plans on introducing the Airbus A350-900ULR as soon as possible onto the routes, as it is far more fuel efficient and comfortable.
The A340-500 delivery marks the first time that an Airbus has been in the OASIS fleet since 2000, when the Airbus A300-600R was retired from the fleet, and was replaced with the Boeing 767.
