I think that the best balance for such planes is simple supply and demand.
If you consider that the airfreight market has been shrinking for year after year, I don't think you want a bunch of those planes around.
However you could have a contact system in the game that allows airlines to bit on certain special flights, lowest bidder that can handle it wins the contract. That way you might get some use out of your plane, but it be a more risky investment seeing normally it will not pay out to fly out and with the contracts you might have to bid low.
Anyhow I do hope that it will be possible to keep slowly growing my VC10 fleet over time, just being the stubborn airline that says "This plane has worked for us for us now for 60 years and I am certain it will for an other 60 years."
