Last Post Wins Round 4
If you have to pay upfront fewer people would play the game, and therefore lesser profits.

If it is free to play upfront, but gives lots of "in-game purchases" such as boost, premium, etc, then effectively they would pay for these purchases because they like the game and want to be better at it or continue playing it, or for some other reason.

It's just simple psychology at work to ensure these companies earn profits.
Yeah, and it also makes sure that people who don't ever wish to pay leave very soon afterwards due to the frustration Sad
Let's just say that unlike the 90s where everything was Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat, video games aint the "wonder" that it used to be. People were amazed by these "16-bit graphics" and "Sumo wrestlers that can hit you 100 times!" that they actually pay (via cart purchases or sinking coins in the arcades) just to play these "new advancements in technology" Hell, I can still remember the day I first laid eyes on a SF2 machine and I swear I stood there with my eyeballs out of their sockets. The allure to plunge a coin in that machine is so strong. Now? Pre-launch trailers are everywhere on TV and Youtube and people can now decide if they want to pay for a game even before it comes out which validates lolliftw's point. Back then? Wanna try it? Better pay son.

It's a lot harder now to make money off of video games.

Yes, youtube which is now 100x more popular than videogames.

Nowadays, social media and the internet is king. Video games took a backseat.

Making games more accessible to the masses is both a blessing and a curse.

Just my opinion Smile

Is it also because the pace of life is much faster now and people refuse to start playing video games as they may take up too much time? Honestly scrolling through social media "seems faster" to many people as compared to gaming.

But then again I cannot explain why some people would rather watch the live tournament of a video game as compared to playing it themselves. Huh
