International Version of the bimonthly newsletter - September/October Edition
The announcement was made at a press conference, in which Mr Li Mingxiang, CEO of Phoenix Airlines, signed an agreement with the representatives from Airports Company South Africa to launch flights from China to the airport. In the agreement, Phoenix Airline will be given landing slots over the next year for operations into OR Tambo International Airport. The first Phoenix Airlines flight between China and Johannesburg will be from Shanghai Pudong, which is Phoenix Airlines' biggest hub. "We are pleased to welcome flights connecting Johannesburg to Shanghai, China's major financial hub. With this flight, it can help to increase the connectivity between East Asia and South Africa, allowing passengers from East Asia to connect to other cities in Africa here in Johannesburg, as well as allow passengers from South Africa and surrounding nations to get to places in China and East Asia," said Mr Mashaba. "We hope that this would mark the first of Phoenix Airlines' many operations in to South Africa."
Mr Li confirmed the flight schedule for this flight. "We would be operating this flight with our Airbus 350XWB aircraft. The higher capacity A350-1000 will be flying this route, with a schedule that times in perfectly to some of our operations in Shanghai Pudong. Departing Shanghai after lunch time, it arrives in Johannesburg at around 9.30pm, with the return leaving before 11pm to reach Shanghai Pudong by 6.15pm. This would coincide with our evening block of domestic and regional flights, connecting passengers to other places in the region."
The schedule for the flight is as follows:
PF0461 PVG 1350 JNB 2125 351 D
PF0462 JNB 2240 PVG 1815 351 D
Originally, Phoenix Airlines launched charter flights to Honolulu for selected tour groups, who wanted an opportunity to fly to Honolulu and the Hawaii islands. Later, this was the route approved by the US Department of Transport for the additional flights to bring back China citizens and citizens of other East Asian nations from the tropical storms of the East Coast. However, with many Phoenix Club members begging Phoenix Airlines to launch the route officially to Honolulu, we asked for additional flights to Hawaii. The stunning demand for flights there forced our hand, as we even had to launch up to 6 times frequency between Beijing and Honolulu for certain time periods!
At Phoenix Airlines, we want to ensure that we fly routes with demand. We started flights to holiday islands like the Maldives and Bali of Indonesia because Chinese citizens are flying there for holiday. Noting that the Golden Week is coming, we could not resist your demand for flights to Hawaii, so here we are!
Ending the trial period one week in advance, we have converted all our scheduled charters to scheduled flights. Yes, this would mean everyone and anyone could book flights to Honolulu with immediate effect. Some of our routes, such as flights from Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Beijing will continue. Other cities like Xi'an and Hangzhou will see flights to Honolulu. You may take a look at our schedule below. All flights stated are available for reservation from today, so do visit our website to book these flights to Honolulu!

In recent months, demand for travel to the American continent has been increasing. Regardless of point-to-point demand from China, or the demand coming from transiting passengers, we are recieving numerous requests for flights into US. Choosing certain cities over others is difficult, considering that we have to apply to both CAAC and the US DoT for approval to launch routes. In the end, we had decided on few routes, and with approval from the authorities, expanded our US operations to this stage.
The US cities we serve from China are as follows: Honolulu, Seattle-Tacoma, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix Sky Harbour, Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago O'Hare, Indianapolis, New York-JFK, and Atlanta. Joining this list will be Washington Dulles, as PEK-IAD flights will begin on the 30th September 2019. (Bookings have already started! Honolulu, here we come!
Some of our Phoenix Club members, as well as selected passengers travelling on tour groups knew that we started a one month trial for flights to Honolulu. The result?
