Gates
#1
Can you please help.
I have 20 routes from LGW and 10 gates.
I keep getting charged for not having enough gates.
How many should I have?
Thanks

Hello.

You need one gate for every plane working there but if you are very active you can have the first half "dedicated" and the other half "shared".

See you around.

I think the optimum number is slightly more complicated then Dokhu makes out. If your airline is set up to have 29 aircraft at Gatwick at once, you fly them all out to another airport, then fly them all back then you need 20 gates at Gatwick as at some times of the day you will have 20 aircraft on the ground. However, if instead you off set your aircraft you can get away with less. Say you instead have 10 aircraft at Gatwick and 10 elsewhere. You login and fly the 10 aircraft which are elsewhere to Gatwick and the 10 aircraft elsewhere into Gatwick. This can half the number of gates you need for the same number of roues as no more then half of your aircraft will be on the ground at Gatwick at the same time.

You have to pay attention to the timing of your landings. Obviously as you grow this can get quite complicated. Essentially for every plane on the ground you will need 1 free gate. As the planes take off again that gate frees up. So it's possible to run many planes with just a few gates if they are spaced out.
