Selling aircraft
#1
Hi

To prevent the abuse of selling aircraft in the used aircraft market there should be a penalty fee let´s say 20% of the price it was bought

Thanks.

I messaged the same to Unk. I found the following things in the morning:

  1. There is no distance flown before selling limit on the aircraft.

  2. So you can actually buy the aircraft and sell it immediately.

  3. When you order say 21 aircraft you get the aircraft at 70% discount price. But when you sell the aircraft immediately, the aircraft is sold at 100% price. Giving a good profit to the airline.

  4. When I sold the aircraft immediately after bulk ordering them I noticed that aircraft were being sold at a price 30,000 to 80,000 more than the 100% price of each aircraft, Maybe because they had 0 cycles and 0 miles flown.

I'm not sure i understanding. Are you suggesting that when purchasing a used aircraft, 20% on the money goes to the seller as some sort of fee? (Presumably with the seller receiving 80%)? What exactly is the point of this, isn't the whole point of business to sell items for more then in cost to obtain them, i understanding that the use of such selling services probably isn't free, i am also happy to be corrected here but 20% seems quite high. I'm also not sure i understand what sort of "abuse" would be stopped, could you please elaborate on how the current system can be exploited?

Let's assume you buy 10 aircraft and decide to sell them immediately. You can not sell them at the same price that you bought them and even less if they have not traveled a certain amount of kilometers.  Because you can fill the used aircraft market page buying and selling in an insane way if there is no control.

In addition Chaitanya is right when he says that you buy the airplanes cheaper and then you sell them more expensive.

I tried it for test and fun in the morning it worked!

I actually used to do this with my sister when we used to play Monopoly.

I just sold an aircraft (and its passengers, their belongings and any cargo) DURING ITS FLIGHT. Maybe, we should check some boxes, that not only disallow changing registrations, seat configurations etc., but also the aircraft's sale while it's off the ground.

It seems that Unk rushed that feature into production and forgot some things... Rolleyes

Regarding distance flown before selling, I'm not sure that's necessarily a problem. I don't want to put arbitrary limits on gameplay unless there is a good reason for it.

So I need to-

1. adjust price formula so selling price of new aircraft is 2-3% lower than brand new price.
2. prevent selling of aircraft until they have been delivered
3. prevent selling of aircraft when they are en-route

anything else?

Additionally, thinking about the future of this system, maybe I could give a couple options when selling. Option 1 - sell immediately to the used market for a fixed, lower price. Option 2 - list it on the market for a custom price, but you would have to wait for somebody to purchase it before you got the money.

Unk, the last suggestion is very good, like in CA. Smile the game would be more interactive.

I agree with all that, I think it would pretty much invalidate the 'airplane-spam' strategy that IO just used to get 58 billion with around forty minutes of effort. Just one thing - make sure you put it to 2-3% under the sale price for 1 plane, not the discount-included price it was purchased for. There's no reason to do that, as when selling a plane you'd try to put the price as high as possible.

Alright so points 1, 2 & 3 from above have been implemented and the used market has been reset. Max price of aircraft when selling is 3% lower than new price (not including any bulk discounts). Once I implement the different selling options I'll change the max price to 30% lower than new price for instant selling (selling directly to the market). Max price for posting the aircraft on the market at a custom price would remain at 3% lower than new price.

Now I suppose you could still use some strategy and make a profit. Lets say you purchase 20 aircraft to get the max discount of 30%, and then posted them on the used market once they were delivered at 5% less than the new price. Essentially making a 25% profit on each sale. I'm not too worried about that. I think it could actually bring some cool strategy into the game for the more established airlines.
